Wrapped up an AIIM Wednesday Webinar earlier today, this one on Should You Outsource Your E-mail Archive? Will post a link (when it's available - next 24 hours or so) to the actual replay of the audio and slides, but here are the raw slides for my portion of the presentation.

Funny enough - e-mail/messaging and security where the original topics I first covered when I accidentally stumbled out of my IT-oriented cube and became an analyst. Much of this was a blast from the past for me - but as I said in the webinar, quite a lot has changed with regards to the options available for e-mail management capabilities of any kind.

Of Findability, Folksonomies, and Facets

Ramping up to our webinar in support of the forthcoming findings in the Market IQ on Findability, I wanted to point out a few useful resources to help in selling (or at least understanding) the issues that impact Findability, and ways to "solve" Findability.

At the Enterprise 2.0 Conference 2 weeks ago, I ran into Thomas Vander Wal, who coined the term "folksonomy." What better way to FURTHER explain the concept, than point to one of his recent presentations that relate to this? The presentation I chose discusses both the collaborative (it's made of people!) side of folksonomy (social bookmarking, primarily - ala delicious, connectbeam, etc.) as well as the tags and tagging that underpins the process.

Blogs, Articles, Tweets, Oh My! (on AIIM and Enterprise 2.0)

Wow, last week was intense...

Always handy when a conference you want to go to, AND happen to be keynoting at (with colleague Carl Frappaolo), is a 15 minute walk from your office. Good thing too, as I needed to run back and forth multiple times over the week to sneak in and out and still get work done while catching up with the latest news, and the happenings of so many friends and colleagues in this space.

For all that's wrong with Twitter (horrible downtime being among the top 2), this is the 2nd event where the universe of "friends/followers" I have on Twitter has truly astonished me. Why? Making it easy to find and be found in the crowd of 1,200 attendees, and already be up to speed with what they're thinking before having actually "met them" (in person, or "real life" as some still like to think of it).

But in the end, the comments, discussions, backroom chatter and yes "traditional" coverage was quite amazing.

Already over 580 650 views of our presentation ("Enterprise 2.0 FTW!") on slideshare.net, including favorites by Ross Mayfield of SocialText (see his presentation "Elevating the Enterprise 2.0 Conversation" as well).

If you missed the show, the video for our keynote (officially titled "Enterprise 2.0 - A State of the Industry Address" and for our purposes "Enterprise 2.0 FTW!") is up as well - at a mere 15 minutes, surely you can take a break. The splicing of the slides into the live presentation leaves a bit to be desired (you may want to grab a copy of the deck via slideshare, and have it up in a 2nd window). When I get a chance, I'll take a stab at editing it for better flow and context - but the video provided by TechWeb is what we have for now.

Anyone who has captured photos, audio, video, or any other commentary, speak up, and point us at the goods... much appreciated.

Enterprise 2.0 = Knowledge Management 2.0?

Presented a subset of our Market IQ on Enterprise 2.0 findings today at the Boston KM Forum hosted at Bentley. Specifically dived into the Knowledge Management-oriented aspects of Enterprise 2.0.

Not claiming by a far stretch that Enterprise 2.0 is exactly Knowledge Management 2.0 (or vice-versa), but there are some great overlaps. The battery of a dozen profiling questions (a modified version of the KM2 Methodology we've used in the past) that we'd used in the survey popped out a subset of respondents who were "KM Inclined" - and that served as the main data used in this presentation.

If you've already seen our webinar, or read the report, this presentation may be redundant, although the front 2/3rds is new material, setting up the discussion of Enterprise 2.0 in general, Knowledge Management 1.0, and where we seem to be heading.

A fellow was recording the audio, we'll see if I was loud enough to make it worth syncing up and posting - in the meantime, you can probably follow along with what I'm trying to get across, but feel free to let me know if it's clear or mud! Stay tuned for Social Networking Meets Intranets Presentation March 5th 2008 in Boston

You may have noticed my activites on the public Social Networks (LinkedIn, Facebook, Ryze, Xing, CollectiveX, etc.). If you have at all enjoyed the podcasts, blogging, or presentations that I've posted here on BizTechTalk on that topic, and are interested in the "enterprise ramifications" of Social Networks, consider leaping into my presentation at the AIIMexpo, March 2008, in Boston, MA, USA. The AIIMexpo runs March 3rd to the 6th, 2008.

This presentation is currently slated to be Wednesday, March 5th, from 11:10am-12:00pm, and is titled "Build Smarter Internal & External Communities via Social Networking Methodologies and Technologies."

The entire presentation may be shorter than the time it takes to say the title - not sure what came over me with the titles for my presentations in 2008... Will this presentation be one of my "hyper-keynotes" (happy to see over 2,000 views on my "Knowledge = Innovation" presentation) or a more traditional presentation? You'll have to attend to find out, but I'm looking forward to the topic, as it's something I've been talking about for a good 4-5 years now.

The overall agenda is not available yet, but in the works. If you are interested in registering, early pricing expires in a bit over a week.

The AIIMexpo is owned and run by Questex, not AIIM (my current employer), which I realize is slightly confusing for those of you who haven't quite followed the history of AIIM over the last 60+ years. If you knew us from "the big show" (essentially the Comdex of ECM), we have moved on, quite significantly.

Needless to say, it's worked out well for both parties for Questex to license the AIIM brand and take over the burden of running a show which still gets over 10,000 attendees, and for AIIM to be able to focus on expanding out on other aspects of the business, like firing up Market Intelligence and hiring Carl Frappaolo and moi to jumpstart this business, not to mention the Training unit (see The AIIM Knowledge Center blog), which in just under 2 years, has provided training for over 4,200 people around the world... more on training, in a separate entry. Carl and I are lending a hand on the Enterprise 2.0 front, since we're in the midst of kicking off our next major research topic, you guessed it, on Enterprise 2.0.

FYI - on the topic of process and innovation, anyone who would like to contribute war stories that I will reference in the presentation, get in touch (comment/trackback/twitter/etc.). Would love to hear from you. My initial research many years ago was comprised of over 200 e-mail and phone conversations with heavy (at the time) and newbie users of Social Networking Systems (SNSes). Much has changed, although the core remains the same. Let me know what your take is!
