Always interested in seeing what innovations companies are using to bridge the gap between the real and the virtual worlds.Carl has blogged on interactive and personalized digital content in months past, but this takes interactivity between the "real world" and the "virtual world" a bit farther.
General Electric, and their "Ecomagination" division has created what they call an "Augmented Reality" interface which combines a printed piece of paper with a special symbol on it, Flash 10 (you may have to upgrade, they'll let you know), a web cam and browser, in order to allow you to interact with a virtual world by triggering and controlling that interaction with a piece of paper.
Not a clue what I'm talking about?
Take a look at the video below:
Or, better yet, go to GE's ecomagination site and take it for a spin (literally), and see what you think.
Now if only someone could create those holographic/animated business cards I've been thinking of for a good decade or so... Anyone?
Any other examples of scenarios like this (directly or vaguely related), feel free to post - much innovation to be done in ALL worlds.
